My Bristol RFC memory

Created by Bob one year ago

I played for Bristol for the whole of the 1963/64 season. As a young, brash Welshman who had just left St. Lukes College, Exeter, there was a certain amount of resentment amongst some of the players. Although, at the time, I couldn’t understand why, I realise now that I had taken the place of someone who had played for Bristol Schools, a combination side etc. and was an out and out Bristolian. I had taken a place that they rightfully felt was theirs.

One of the Bristol stalwarts who made me feel welcome was Mike and his lovely wife who went to great pains to make my then fiance feel at home.

I have never forgotten this and a few years ago had the pleasure of meeting up with Mike at the home of a mutual friend in Gerrards Cross.

I am extremely sorry to hear of his passing, people like Mike are few and far between and are treasured in the memories of people like myself.

My very best wishes to all of Mike ‘s family at this very sad time.
